BIGGS JUNCTION, Ore. — Authorities say they have arrested a suspect following a standoff with members of a SWAT team along Highway 97 near Biggs Junction.

KPTV-TV reports 24-year-old Dean Allen Bromley, of The Dalles, Ore., was arrested Wednesday on an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge.

An Oregon State Police sergeant had stopped to check on Bromley who was allegedly parked in a stolen van along the highway.

Police say Bromley initially complied with the trooper’s orders, but then he got back inside the van and refused to come out.

Additional troopers and deputies responded to the scene as well as a police SWAT team, which used chemical agents to get Bromley to exit the vehicle.

The incident caused Highway 97 to be closed for four hours.
