Minnehaha — The Portland Phoenix women’s hockey team hosted its Checking for Charity Tournament in August in Beaverton, Ore., and named Vancouver-based Furry Friends as the recipients of the proceeds. Last month, the team presented a check to the shelter for $869.26, which will go to the building fund for the kitties.

The no-kill nonprofit shelter needs to find a new building for its kittens by the end of 2016, and is currently raising money for a new building so the shelter can increase the amount of cats in its care.
