Firefighters attacked an early morning blaze that ended up burning about half of a house in the Fourth Plain Village neighborhood, Vancouver Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said.

Crews responded to the fire, reported at 1:11 a.m. at 2608 Neals Lane, and put out the fire, which caused an estimated $75,000 in damage, Scarpelli said.

The fire started in a bedroom, but the cause remains under investigation, Scarpelli said. The house was supposed to be unoccupied and did not have electricity, Scarpelli said, but there was evidence that people were squatting in the home.

The ranch-style home is owned by Ralph and Robbin Walsh, who have a different mailing address.
