A Vancouver man, Steve Watrous, has been presented an award from the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission for his work representing recreational fishermen.

The commission annually honors an individual, agency or organization for “outstanding contributions in support of Pacific Coast marine fisheries resources.’’

Watrous has been a member of the Pacific Fishery Management Council’s salmon advisory subpanel for more than 20 years representing Washington sport fishermen. .

According to PSMFC, Watrous “has donated thousands of hours and dollars during these years and has demonstrated a rare quality in terms of his willingness to work cooperatively with commercial fishers.’’

Established by Congress in 1947, the commission is an interstate compact including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California and Alaska. Its mission is to help resource agencies and the fishing industry sustainably manage Pacific Ocean resources.
