Kitsap authorities think missing reclusive millionaire is dead

Charging documents filed against six people suspected in the robbery of an 89-year-old Kitsap County man show detectives now believe the missing elderly victim is dead.

The body of Robert Archie Hood, whom court documents described as a reclusive millionaire, has not been found, but detectives say they found what they suspected to be a freshly dug grave at the residence of one suspect.

Five people have been arrested and charged in connection with the robbery and rendering criminal assistance, court documents show.

A sixth person has been charged with rendering criminal aid and is being sought on a warrant, charging documents say.

According to documents filed in Kitsap County Superior Court last week, a confidential informant called a Kitsap County sheriff’s detective Dec. 19 to report overhearing a number of people talking about the robbery of a man they referred to as “Bob Barker.”

The suspects, according to court documents, discussed how they beat, tied up and robbed “an elderly male in the male’s home.”

The informant also heard the suspects discussing the “need to get rid of a body,” prosecutors said in court documents.

Two days later, Hood’s caretaker reported him missing from his home in Bremerton and that cash, checks and other valuables were missing, court documents show.

Police arrived to find the home ransacked, the documents say.

Police and prosecutors allege Robert Pry, 29, of Bremerton, and Joshua Owen Rogers Jones, 26, beat, tied up and robbed Hood and that they had a firearm when they committed the crime, charging documents say.

The girlfriends of Pry and Rogers, Ocean Wilson, 19, and Miranda Bond, 25, respectively, as well as Arnold Mafnas Cruz, 47, of South Kitsap County, and Alisha Small, 33, from Bremerton, are charged with rendering criminal aid for allegedly helping the two robbery suspects dispose of a car at the Emerald Queen casino and attempting to cash forged checks.

Authorities on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Cruz, 47, of South Kitsap County. According to charging documents, witnesses told investigators Cruz helped clean out and bleach the trunk of a car used to dispose of a body.

Investigators also found the suspected grave at Cruz’s residence with a tarp partially in the hole, court documents say. A cadaver dog alerted on the tarp and a spot next to the hole, consistent with finding an area where human remains are or have been.

Cruz allegedly told a witness he did not want the two suspects to go to prison for murder.

Pry and Rogers Jones are each being held on $1 million bail.

Police ask anyone with information on the whereabouts of Cruz or Hood to contact Detective Gerald Swayze, 360-337-4479, or Detective Jason Bowman, 360-337-7064, ext. 3731. Those who wish to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
