OK, as promised, some rainfall from January: Murphy Dennis, near Clark County Rifles, 6.81 inches; Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 7.98 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 4.31 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 3.91 inches; Bob Starr, Cougar, 12.66 inches; Phil Delany, Dole Valley, 9.10 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 3.35 inches; Pete Conrad near Tukes Mountain, 3.98 inches; Merle Moore, 2 miles west of Yacolt, 8.45 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 3.98 inches; Dan Hein, Camas, 4.63 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 4.43 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 5.80 inches; Larry Lebsack, Barberton, 3.63 inches; Bob Mode, Minnehaha, 2.42 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 4.30 inches; Gary Collins, Brush Prairie, 4.58 inches. I measured 2.76 inches here in Salmon Creek.

Says Murphy Dennis: “My peonies, iris, daffodils are up. The grass needs mowing and buds on the apple trees are about to open. I’ve had a humming bird around all winter which I have never seen in 22 years up here. My neighbor, a beekeeper said his bees are finding pollen somewhere in the area. I guess strange things happen.”

Merle Moore: “I’m still hoping for snow. The warm temperatures are just wonderful, but I think we all know it’s all wrong for this time.”

Larry Lebsack: “Today I positively heard the ‘peepers’ … behind the Barberton Substation. And I have to mow my lawn. It must be March!”

Jim Knoll: “Winter seems to have abandoned us here in the Northwest. We had our winter in November with a bit of snow and since then it’s been warm and mostly dry. I really don’t want to have to start mowing the lawn before March.”

The forecast calls for warm and dry weather all week.
