The Tigers started quickly and advanced in the 4A Greater St. Helens League district tournament.

Battle Ground (11-10) jumped to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter in Tuesday’s loser-out game at Battle Ground. The Tigers begin the double-elimination part of the district tournament today at top-seeded Union.

Battle Ground sophomore Rennie Mendoza had a team-high 11 points, five rebounds and four assists. That included three 3-pointers in the first quarter.

Battle Ground’s leading scorer, post Devin Johnson, was held to just nine points.

“It was nice to see other people step up and make some plays,” Battle Ground coach Wes Armstrong said. “Devin was double- and triple- teamed all night.”

Skyview’s season is over at 9-11. Marcus Lord scored 13 points to lead the Storm.
