Shelter members thank group for weekly meals

Esther Short — Every week, a group of five women cook homemade soup and bake cornbread for a group of 24 homeless men they had never met. That is, until Friday, when the women, who all live at The Quarry Senior Living in Vancouver, visited the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Winter Hospitality Overflow shelter. Usually, a driver from The Quarry delivers the food to the shelter each week. As thanks for their weekly cooking and in honor of Valentine’s Day, members of the shelter presented each of the women with a long-stemmed red rose. The seasonal WHO shelter, organized by the Council for the Homeless, Share, and many local churches and volunteers, operates from Nov. 1 to March 31.
