KALAMA — A man was fatally struck by a BNSF Railway passenger train between Seattle and Portland.
BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas says the man was trespassing on the tracks.
The man was struck about 10:30 a.m. Saturday by a southbound Amtrak passenger train about 3 miles south of Kalama, a remote area along the Columbia River.
Melonas says dispatchers held seven trains until about 1 p.m. Saturday, when they resumed operations.
BNSF police are investigating with local officials.
The railroad says more than 30 trespassers were fatally injured after being struck by trains in 2013 and 2014 on its tracks in Washington state.
