PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say a man who fired at officers during a foot chase shot and killed himself early Wednesday after he was cornered in the backyard of a home in Portland.
The man had run off Tuesday night when officers attempted to contact him as he left a bar. They say he fired a shot during a foot chase. No officers were hit.
All available officers were called to surround the neighborhood. The man was spotted on the ground in a backyard. When officers tried to talk they heard a gunshot and found that he had shot himself. He died about 1 a.m. Wednesday at the scene.
Detectives are still investigating.
