WINLOCK, Wash. (AP) — Lewis County officials believe a woman and two girls died in a house fire early Thursday in Winlock.

Lewis County Fire District 15 says they were unable to escape the flames after the fire broke out after midnight in the two-story home. A man and two boys got out safely.

About 20 firefighters from Winlock, Toledo, Vader and Napavine responded, and firefighting continued to 6 a.m.

The Chronicle reports daylight showed the home destroyed. The coroner was at the scene for a search of the debris.

Winlock police are investigating the apparent deaths and cause of the fire.
