It’s a big day at Clark College as the home basketball finale brings a variety of events.

At the top of the list is the Clark men playing Highline of Des Moines for the West region title and a No. 1 seed for next week’s NWAC Tournament.

Tipoff is 3 p.m. at the O’Connell Center. Admission is $5 and free for Clark students and staff with ID.

Clark (20-6, 12-3 West) needs a win to sweep the season series against the Thunderbirds (21-6, 13-2) and claim the top seed. A Highline win gives the Thunderbirds the No. 1 seed and Clark will be No. 2.

Clark won at Highline, 95-73, on Jan. 28.

Both teams are on win streaks as Clark has won its last five games and Highline its last seven.

Clark clinched its spot in the postseason tournament with a 92-50 win at South Puget Sound on Wednesday night.

Clark will be honoring its sophomores — seven men and four women — who conclude the careers with the Penguins.

The Clark women (14-9, 9-6), who clinched the West’s No. 4 seed to the NWAC Tournament with a 72-63 win at South Puget Sound on Wednesday, tipoff against Highline at 1 p.m. today.

After the games is the annual Clark College Athletic Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony at 5 p.m. in the Penguin Union Building.

This year’s inductees include the 1989 women’s basketball team; Lisa (Boe) Fort from the 1989 women’s basketball team; George Fullerton, track and field coach (1959-89); and Denny Huston, former Clark athlete, coach and staff member.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and tickets are $25.

Inductees will also be recognized at halftime of the men’s basketball game.

BASEBALL: The Clark baseball team is scheduled to open its season with a doubleheader beginning at noon today at Kindsfather Field. The Penguins are playing Green River in a four-game series. The teams play a second doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday.
