Letter: Resolutions for responsible actions

The Columbian
Published: January 4, 2015, 4:00pm

Normally I would not send a letter like this to The Columbian. However, in the name of public responsibility and fair play, I am giving the people of Vancouver this shopping list for 2015.

  1. The elected officials and so-called leaders of Vancouver and Clark County need to show some backbone by making responsible decisions for the people in this town. Simply put, do your job.
  2. The politicians of Southwest Washington have to make a united stand against Tesoro-Savage plans to establish an oil terminal in Vancouver. Their voices need to be heard loud and clear in Olympia. Our representatives in state government have to give Gov. Jay Inslee a clear message that oil trains going through Vancouver is totally reckless to public and environmental safety. Stop the oil trains.
  3. I am tired of the relentless, stupid attacks on Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke, as well as their crony Sen. Don Benton and other bureaucrats who are infesting county and city government. The Columbian needs to find other do-nothing officials in this town to satisfy its own stupid mug image.
  4. My last shot at The Columbian is for its relentless and perpetual editorial attack on the Cowlitz Tribe to stop their quest to establish a gaming reservation near La Center. The tribe has played by the rules; waited for more than 100 years to be recognized as an equal native tribe under federal and state laws. It’s time to let the Cowlitz reach their own lawful destiny.
  5. Finally, let’s change the status quo here in Clark County to give everybody a chance to seek the American dream. That means jobs and equal opportunity for all.
