Showtime Baseball team posts win in Arizona

A five-run fifth inning carried Showtime Baseball college prep team to a 5-4 win over California Baseball Academy Marucci on Friday to open the Perfect Game MLK Championship, a college prospect showcase tournament in Glendale, Ariz.

Trevor Wharton went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI for Showtime. Matthew Olstead and three relievers pitched for Showtime.

CBA Marucci from Temecula, Calf., is considered one of the top teams in the nation has 15 players committed to Division I colleges. Pitcher McKinley Lefore of Camas is the only Division 1 committed player (Oregon) on Showtime’s roster.

Showtime plays at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Advanced Baseball Academy of Overland Park, Kan., and at 2 p.m. Sunday against MAP Baseball of Eden Prairie, Minn.

The winner of the pool will advance to championship play on Monday, while the other three teams play a consolation game on Monday.
