The Portland Thorns acquired forward Jodie Taylor from the Washington Spirit on Friday with a trade during the National Women’s Soccer League College Draft.

A native of Birkenhead, England, Taylor starred at Oregon State from 2004-2007 and holds the Beavers all-time record for game-winning goals. Last season, her first in the NWSL, Taylor scored 11 goals and had two assist.

Thorns coach Paul Riley called Taylor, 28, one of the premier finishers in the NWSL. “We’ve been chasing Jodie for awhile,” he said.

To add Taylor, the Thorns sent to Washington two draft picks that they acquired earlier on Friday in a trade with Houston. The Thorns sent forward Jessica McDonald to the Dash.

The Thorns did not make a selection in the four-round draft. They open the season at home on April 11.
