Letter: Public servants can be voted out

After reading Lou Brancaccio’s June 27 column, “Fear and loathing in Crazytown,” I was wondering if Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, realizes he is a public servant? If you look up the definition, it basically says, “a person who holds a government position by election or appointment.” We, the people of the state, are not his public servants. He is ours. He was voted into office and he can be voted out (are you reading this voters?).

His hiring as director of Clark County Environmental Services was in direct violation of county hiring policies and procedures so he was not properly vetted. His boorish behavior and attitude has been an embarrassment for the county and the state. Hopefully a qualified person can be found to serve in that role as director and we can rid ourselves of Benton’s crass act.

I guess until then he’ll be a lead weight around our neck (the analogy just seemed so appropriate).
