Officials: 4 escape from Mississippi jail; 3 still at large

RAYMOND, Miss. — Three inmates at a Mississippi jail who were discovered missing during bed check are still at large, authorities said.

Four prisoners fled about 12:45 a.m. Monday from the jail in the small town of Raymond, and Jermaine Wilson, 19, was found and arrested 18 hours later in Jackson, about 10 miles away, sheriff’s department spokesman Othor Cain said.

Deputies and U.S. marshals were chasing leads Tuesday on the remaining three fugitives: 25-year-old Montreal Damon Anderson; 23-year-old John Rollins; and 18-year-old Kevin Holmes.

Sheriff Tyrone Lewis said investigators were putting together details of the escape, describing it as “prearranged and preplanned.”

Preliminary investigations indicate “that they have had some help from the inside and outside. So we’re not able to divulge that information at this point in time but that’s what it appears to be at this point in time,” Lewis said.

Wilson was spotted by a plain-clothes deputy around 6:30 p.m. Monday at a Jackson intersection and was arrested without incident, Can said. He is charged with capital murder in the 2012 death of a Jackson woman.

Holmes faces three counts of armed robbery, and Rollins is charged with auto theft and false pretense. Both men also face charges of malicious mischief.

Anderson is charged with recovered stolen property and is jailed on a felony hold.
