A train rear-ended another train in Virginia on Tuesday, causing five empty cars and a locomotive to derail and spill diesel fuel, authorities said.
The westbound Norfolk Southern train was struck from behind by a second westbound Norfolk Southern train near the small Western Virginia town of Dublin on Tuesday afternoon, The Roanoke Times quoted Norfolk Southern spokeswoman Susan Terpay as saying.
Two crew members from the second train were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the newspaper quoted Terpay as saying.
She said the train that was struck had three locomotives and 54 rail cars. She said the five rear cars, all empty, derailed. One of the two locomotives of the other train also derailed, spilling some diesel fuel.
