Here’s some good gardening advice from Vancouver Fire Chief Joe Molina: Water your yard.
While 2015 is certain to be remembered as bringing a crippling drought to much of the West, water remains in abundant supply for most of Clark County. Unlike Portland and other areas, our water comes from wells that tap a deep underground aquifer that isn’t subject to the fluctuations of surface water. Don’t squander our resource, but feel free to keep your lawns, bushes and flowers alive.
Doing so will help reduce the fire danger around your home, which prompted the chief’s advice. Our rainy spring and coolish summers generally make us immune to wildfires, but this year has already been a humdinger. We can do our part by being careful with cigarettes and other sources of fire, and keeping our property green.
