Tacoma lighthouse coming down because of structural problems

TACOMA — A lighthouse that is supposed to be a beacon of hope above the Tacoma Rescue Mission is being taken down because of structural problems.

KING-TV reports the 15-year-old structure has sunk about 5 inches into the ground.

The mission is trying to figure out how to fix the situation and who should pay for it. They blame the settling on a nearby rail line built by Sound Transit. That claim is the subject of a lawsuit between the mission, Sound Transit and a subcontractor.

In the meantime, the structure is being removed because of safety concerns.
