Letter: Hypocrisy surfaces along scandal

How fascinating to read the May 30 article “More Hastert details emerge” about the travails of long-time Republican Dennis Hastert. Comments are made that he should get his day in court, as every American is afforded that privilege. No argument there.

My first question is “Where did he get millions of dollars to dole out when most of his career has been as a U.S. representative?” Secondly, if he is the alleged intelligent person his friends say he is, how did he miss the fact that he would be questioned about huge cash withdrawals? Third, how did he have the nerve to lobby for the impeachment of President Bill Clinton, knowing of his own history? This is hypocrisy at its best.

An increasing number of members of Congress seem to not understand the “I” word — “Integrity.” Please God, make a storm of “Integrity” rain over Congress.
