Anglers got off to a mediocre start at Saturday’s opening of Swift Reservoir on the North Fork of the Lewis River.

Biologist Jim Byrne of the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife sampled 57 anglers with 132 trout kept and 57 released. That’s an average of 2.31 trout kept per rod.

Anglers trolling close to the surface seemed to be having the most success.

Byrne said angling effort appeared less than a year ago.

The 4,500-acre reservoir has been stocked with 51,800 rainbow trout and is open for fishing through the end of November. The limit is five fish, but increases to 10 on Sept. 1.

The reservoir is 8 feet below full pool.
