Former Mountain View High School baseball player P.J. Jones and Union High School senior Cody Hawken were selected in Major League Baseball’s First-Year Draft.

Jones, a catcher, was picked by the Seattle Mariners in the 19th round. He is listed as Patrick Jones on the MLB website, but is known in Clark County and listed on Washington State’s roster as P.J. Jones.

Hawken, an outfielder, was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 34th round.

Hawken was recently named the Gatorade state high school baseball player of the year for his performance for the Titans this spring. He has signed a college letter of intent to play at the University of Portland.

Also of local interest, Clark College pitcher Nick Duron, who is from Tigard, Ore., was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 31st round.
