PORTLAND — The Oregon Court of Appeals has revived a lawsuit filed by a man who alerted police that the half-brother of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had a collection of child pornography.

James Auchincloss of Ashland pleaded guilty in 2010 to charges of encouraging child sexual abuse.

He fired personal assistant Edward McManus after learning he informed police. McManus responded with a lawsuit alleging he was protected by whistleblower laws and wrongly terminated.

The Appeals Court said Wednesday a Jackson County judge shouldn’t have granted summary judgment in favor of Auchincloss.

The judges said Oregon policy encourages all employees with a good-faith belief that their employer has committed a crime involving child abuse to report it.

The case returns to Jackson County Circuit Court.
