Even with the majority of city and county residents detesting local fireworks policy, government leaders (using the term “leaders” loosely) find the profit of selling fireworks more compelling than the will of the people.
With the driest winter on record, the profit motive may be changed — every person who puts match to fuse is financially responsible for all property damage and injury resulting from fireworks they activate. As is the case in lawsuits, all parties relevant to the action can be named — in this case, city or county, fireworks seller, and sponsoring charity.
This financial responsibility is not limited to the Clark County area; our local insanity is exported to the state at large and surrounding states that can bring legal action to all the above entities.
Perhaps this will be the year a major disaster happens because of local fireworks policy, and with millions of dollars of tort action, the politicians will have a reality check.
