Ridgefield — It’s been quite a ride for Beverly Summerhill. The Ridgefield School District bus driver recently retired after 46 years with the district, during which she drove about 455,000 miles, according to a release from Ridgefield schools. Summerhill started as a bus driver because it allowed her to go home during the day to do housework, but she quickly took to the job and being around kids each day. She enjoyed dressing up for holidays and spending time with her co-workers. “To me, it’s not a job,” she said in the same release. “Honestly, I’ve never felt like ‘Oh, no, I have to go to work.’ I love driving the bus. I love the kids.” In retirement, Summerhill said she and her husband are planning to travel and spend time with their three kids.
