WENATCHEE — About 50 people have been told to leave their homes as a fast-growing grass fire burns in Central Washington.
Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources to assist local crews battling the Sleepy Hollow Fire, which began Sunday afternoon near Wenatchee.
Authorities say up to 70 structures are threatened by the blaze. KHQ-TV reported (http://bit.ly/1C0lMKr) that the blaze had grown to about 2.6 square miles Sunday night and the Red Cross opened an emergency shelter in Wenatchee for people who had evacuated the area.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
