Letter: Private paid aide problematic

The Columbian
Published: June 30, 2015, 12:00am

What may have been seen as a gift when David Madore took office as a county councilor can now be seen as a serious problem for us the citizens of Clark County, as Betty Sue Morris predicted here in 2013 (www.columbian.com/news/2013/feb/03/no-privately-paid-aide-in-public-office). Madore employs a personal secretary who is not an employee of the county, responsible only to him, meaning when there is a conflict between Madore’s interests and the citizens’ interests, we lose.

This is particularly problematic when he is actively campaigning for a new elected position. In the interest of transparency and integrity, this unethical situation needs to be corrected immediately. We deserve no less.
