Letter: Symphony a community gem

The Columbian
Published: March 4, 2015, 12:00am

If music be the food of life, play on. I wonder how many of you Columbian readers realize that we in this area have the fabulous Vancouver Symphony available to us.

When my husband and I moved here in 1996, we were absolutely amazed that Vancouver had its very own symphony orchestra. Led by the extraordinary conductor, Maestro Salvador Brotons, in his 24th season, and with an orchestra of talented and truly gifted musicians, they present six concerts a year. They also feature world-renowned artists such as Arnaldo Cohen, the Brazilian-born pianist who gave an astounding performance on a recent weekend.

The tickets are truly a bargain and it pains me to see empty seats in the concert hall. This is an orchestra that deserves standing room only for every performance. Kudos to all of you who work so tirelessly to keep the music playing via this wonderful orchestra. To Clark County, Portland and beyond please come and support this incredible orchestra; they are a generous gift to all of us.
