PORTLAND — Maintenance and repair work will cause closures at all navigation locks at federal dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers in the coming weeks, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The agency began closing locks at dams this week for inspections and maintenance expected to continue through March. The affected facilities include Bonneville, The Dalles, John Day and McNary dams on the Columbia River; and the Ice Harbor, Lower Monumental, Little Goose and Lower Granite dams on the Snake River, according to the Army Corps, which owns and operates the structures.

The Army Corps’ Portland District locks — at Bonneville, The Dalles and John Day — are scheduled to resume service at 11:59 p.m. on March 21. The rest of the locks, in the agency’s Walla Walla District, will be closed through April 4.

The closures will also affect public access to the facilities at times, according to the Corps.
