RENTON — Needing to add depth in the secondary, the Seattle Seahawks signed free agent cornerback Will Blackmon on Monday.

Seattle also extended the contracts of tight end Anthony McCoy and special teams standout Mike Morgan.

Blackmon spent the past two seasons with Jacksonville but was with Seattle through the 2013 offseason before being cut during training camp. Blackmon made 12 starts in 23 games for the Jaguars and had one interception.

Adding secondary depth has become a priority for Seattle because of injury concerns involving a significant chunk of the defensive backfield.

Jeremy Lane suffered arm and knee injuries in the Super Bowl, and Richard Sherman and Tharold Simon both played through injuries in the game. Seattle is also looking to replace Byron Maxwell, who is a free agent and is expected to sign with Philadelphia.

Morgan was a restricted free agent and has spent his entire career with Seattle. He’s played sparingly on defense but has been a key on special teams for the Seahawks. Morgan returned a blocked punt for a touchdown this season against Dallas.

McCoy has been plagued by injuries in his time with the Seahawks. He spent the past two seasons on injured reserve after suffering Achilles tendon injuries to both legs. McCoy has started 14 of 34 games in his NFL career.
