PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Police say a 23-year-old man has been arrested in the attempted abduction of a toddler walking with his mother on a northwest Portland street.
Sgt. Pete Simpson says several passers-by intervened Wednesday afternoon to help the two. The 2-year-old boy was not hurt.
Witnesses and the boy’s mother told detectives that the child was walking with his mom when a stranger came up to them, pushed the mother to the ground and tried to grab the child, saying the boy belonged to a family member.
Bystanders stopped to help the woman and child and force the intruder away from them, then called 911. Police responded to the scene at Northwest 23rd Avenue at Northwest Lovejoy Street.
