RICHLAND — The Washington State University Board of Regents has approved a student-led proposal to charge undergraduates on the Pullman campus a $20 per-semester technology fee.

The fee is slated to begin in the fall.

WSU is the only four-year institution in the state that doesn’t have a technology fee. Student leaders initiated the fee proposal based on comments they received. They approved the plan this week.

WSU associate vice president Joan King says the fee would generate about $750,000 a year.

She says a committee led by undergraduate students will decide how to spend the funds.

Some ideas include spending the funds on wireless printing, improving wi-fi coverage on the Pullman campus and increasing the number of smart boards in study lounges.
