The Clark College baseball team held tough when it had to, holding off Chemeketa 2-1 in the second game of an NWAC South region doubleheader on Friday at Salem, Ore.

The Penguins lost the first game 7-5.

Clark (17-21, 6-12) had just two hits in the win with no RBI and made four errors. But the Penguins pitching and defense help strand nine Chemeketa baserunners to preserve the victory.

Heritage grad Javi Villanueva (5-1) earned the win. He threw five innings and struck out three. (Click here for complete game 2 boxscore)

In the first game, Dig Merrell drove in three runs, Bret Moskal was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Dylan Knoth was 2 for 3 for the Penguins.

Clark had a 5-4 lead after its half of the fourth inning. Chemeketa (17-19, 5-13) scored twice in its half, and added a run in the fifth. (Click here for complete game 1 boxscore)

These two teams face off again today in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Kindsfather Field.
