Letter: Account for your own mistakes

I’ve always wondered about this.

Per reading the April 22 Nations Briefs “Horse rider beaten by officers to get $650,000,” it occurred to me that the M&M boys caused a payout of $250,000 to Anita Largent for their blunder of hiring Don Benton for a job he wasn’t qualified for as the Department of Environmental Service’s manager. How about the many other elected and nonelected officials that do irresponsible actions, who pays the penalty?

If the answer is the taxpayer, then the next question is, why is the taxpayer responsible for the irresponsible actions of our officials? Shouldn’t they be responsible for their own actions? Then they should pay the penalty.

It’s hard enough knowing our tax money is being spent on items and persons against our wishes, let alone being responsible paying for their irresponsible actions.

Don’t do stupid stuff.
