A man, who police believe was intoxicated, led officers on a pursuit Saturday morning from Sportsman’s Warehouse in Orchards down Interstate 205 into Oregon.

Vancouver police officers were sent to Sportsman’s Warehouse, 11505 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd., around 11:30 a.m. for a report of a suicidal man in the parking lot. Witnesses told 911 dispatchers that the man was sitting in a vehicle, alternating between pointing a gun at his head and setting the gun in his lap, said Officer Ron Stevens. He appeared to be intoxicated.

The store and adjacent stores were supposed to go into lockdown, Stevens said.

However, when police began surrounding the area, a strip mall, the man drove out of the parking lot before they could talk to him, Stevens said. Officers followed him until he took I-205 to Portland. Portland police eventually ended the pursuit because there weren’t enough officers available in the area and the crimes he allegedly committed were misdemeanors, Stevens said.

At one point during the pursuit, the man clipped a deputy’s patrol car, Stevens said. If caught, he faces allegations of driving under the influence, eluding police and reckless driving.
