PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon City-area woman who stabbed her husband after deciding he was possessed by Satan has been placed under state mental health supervision for 20 years.

The Oregonian reports that 62-year-old Helen Vendela Fricke was sentenced Monday. A Clackamas County Circuit Judge ruled she will be supervised by the state Psychiatric Security Review Board. She pleaded guilty except for insanity April 7 to attempted murder.

Court records show that Fricke has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was under a physician’s care, but her medications were inadequate, leading to delusions.

Prosecutors say Fricke buried a butcher knife in her husband’s back in April 2014.

According to a mental health evaluation, under proper medications, Fricke has been much better able to control her behavior.
