PORTLAND — A California woman has been accused of ending a verbal argument by pouring cooking oil on her mother and then threatening to set her on fire.

The Oregonian reports that 38-year-old Elsa Roberts was visiting her mother in Medford, Ore., on Monday when the two began arguing about when Roberts would return to California.

Police say Roberts smashed her 63-year-old mother’s bedroom window with a hammer, poured the oil and, waving a lighter, threatened to burn the woman. Police said they found two glass meth pipes in Roberts’ purse, and she admitted smoking methamphetamine the previous day.

She was booked into the Jackson County Jail on accusations of criminal mischief, harassment, menacing and possession of methamphetamine.

Roberts visits her mother every month to see her children.
