A Washougal-based company was among the Washington entities that received environmental fines of at least $1,000 during the first three months of this year, according to the state Department of Ecology.

Exterior Wood Inc. was fined $5,800 in January for discharging stormwater with high copper levels “on several occasions,” according to the ecology department. The business was among 19 hit with environmental penalties of $1,000 or more in the first quarter of 2015 — and the only one in Clark County.

The largest penalty went to Emerald Services Inc. in Tacoma, which was fined $68,000 for two incidents that spilled a dangerous material in 2013 and 2014, according to the ecology department. One of those incidents also injured a worker, officials said. The penalty is under appeal.
