Letter: Is anyone listening to our need?

Regarding the May 17 editorial, “Water under the bridge: Washington, Oregon need to put aside past hurts, cooperate on new I-5 span,” the issue is not whether folks are willing to talk; it’s whether they are willing to listen.

The hundred grand is money down a rat hole. The earmuffs are legion; they exist in multiple agencies on both sides of the river, and relief will occur if and only if the federal government gets fed up and identifies this region as a national transportation priority. Citing “local involvement” as a priority is an excuse, not a solution.

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas; Rep. Earl Blumenauer, D-Ore.; Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Ore.; and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., where are you?
