Work planned at Dog Mountain trailhead

Planned safety improvements at the popular Dog Mountain trailhead along state Highway 14 will restrict parking in the area starting today, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Temporary signs will block parking along the highway shoulder and allow better access for emergency responders, according to WSDOT. Drivers who ignore the signs could be fined or have their vehicles towed, the agency said.

The signs are part of a safety effort coordinated by WSDOT, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington State Patrol and the U.S. Forest Service, which maintains the trail. Forest service rangers will direct drivers to the designated parking area at the trailhead.

The Dog Mountain trailhead is located along Highway 14 at milepost 53, just east of Stevenson.
