Letter: Fees out of control

The Columbian
Published: May 31, 2015, 12:00am

While I think that most departments of local government are doing their best I do have a issue with the Clark County Animal Control. About two years ago I was given a fine for having a dog and two cats without tags. I got tags and shots for the dog and one cat; since I was unemployed wasn’t able to afford the last cat. I sent a letter by mail and called to explain that I couldn’t pay but the heartless agency sent me to collections.

Now through the collection agency and its various fees plus interest, the bill exploded to $1,429.88 and is still growing. My credit is affected and I’m wondering how it is legal to take a small bill and add ridiculous fees to create a monster.

This is not the way a public agency should operate.
