Letter: Real heroes overshadowed

By Ken French, Vancouver

Former NBA player Lamar Odom is in the news. Who really gives a hoot about an overdosed person in a house of sex? Odom is getting all the headlines from all of the major broadcasting companies and then some. While the major news companies fawn over this, a real hero goes completely unheard of.

I know Facebook is not the most reliable source, but I found a posting about a young man who had put himself in harm’s way to protect the lives of innocent people. He took the brunt of an explosive device, which left the right side of his face filled with scars. Did the media pick up on this real hero? Heck no. It’s getting to the point where America can believe less and less in the major media as they put their phony twist on almost every story to wring out every penny they can. Kind of sounds like our Congress, which brings me to my second point.

Congress has accomplished absolutely nothing. They say that Social Security recipients will not get their cost-of-living increase because gas prices are so low. If that is their criteria then they don’t get a raise either. Every member who votes themselves a raise needs to be on a “do not vote for this person again” list.

I’m beginning to wonder if there are any honest people left in government.
