King’s Way Christian volleyball wins twice to reach 1A district final

Knights will face Kalama for district championship

The King’s Way Christian volleyball swept to a pair of victories Wednesday and into the Class 1A district title match.

The Knights beat Tenino 3-0 and Montesano 3-0 in Montesano to reach Saturday’s district title match against Trico League champion Kalama. The match is 3 p.m. in Castle Rock.

Kari Staples had 19 kills, three aces and four digs, and Julia Sprowls added 12 kills and 16 aces as King’s Way beat Tenino 25-16, 27-25, 25-18.

In the quarterfinals, Staples added 26 kills and nine digs and Brianna Clark had 37 assists as the Knights swept Montesano 25-16, 27-25, 25-18.

The two wins clinched a state berth for King’s Way Christian.

Seton Catholic and La Center remain alive for the third and final state berth. The Cougars and Wildcats will meet at noon Saturday in Montesano in the first of two loser-out matches the teams must win to advance to state.

La Center rallied from two sets down to beat Hoquiam 22-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-10 before falling to Kalama 25-15, 25-15, 25-16. Abby England had 48 digs in the two matches and Maddie Stimmel had 17 kills.

Seton Catholic lost to Montesano in the first round 31-29, 25-15, 26-24 before beating Tenino 25-27, 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 15-12 in a loser-out match. Natalie Pederson had 37 kills and 51 assists in the two matches for Seton.
