Letter: Issues dictate input of constituents

By Don Howard, Camas

I received a mailer from U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, regarding what should be done about the sea lions eating salmon. I filled out the questionnaire but it got me to wondering why I had never received a flier asking me if I thought we need more tax cuts for the wealthy, continued huge dollar amounts to Big Oil companies in the form of subsidies, should defund Planned Parenthood, get rid of the health care for millions of people, shut down our government if demands aren’t met, waste more taxpayer millions on GOP “witch hunt” Benghazi investigations, fire teachers over supposed incompetence, or remove dollars from public schools.

It would appear to me that Herrera Beutler only seeks my input on certain issues. This isn’t quite what I call listening to constituents.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
