PORTLAND — Portland police say they have arrested six people in an effort to break up a group that street races on the Fremont Bridge.
The Oregonian reports that Portland police say they saw several drivers in cars and motorcycles blocking traffic so others could race on two nights in September.
Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Elisabeth Waner wrote in a probable cause affidavit that street racing has been an increasing problem over the last few months.
The court document says the practice has been accompanied by several reports of hit and runs and the August death of a young racer.
Police arrested the six people on various charges, including reckless driving and driving with a revoked license. They were between 18 and 34 years old.
