Many gun sales don’t go through a federal background check because of legal loopholes like buying over the Internet, at gun shows, or from acquaintances. Universal background checks have been suggested, but would that really stop all the gun violence in America? I don’t think it will.
If someone was really determined, they would get their hands on a gun, regardless of whether or not there are universal background checks. Someone could steal, borrow from a friend, or get it from illegal dealers as people do when dealing with, for example, drugs. Even people who pass background checks can still commit gun violence. That being said, I think there should still be universal background checks.
With guns available without a background check, people who would otherwise not have access to guns are enabled and we cannot let this happen. This increases the risk of gun violence more than it would if universal gun background checks were required. Even though we will never be able to eliminate the problem completely, we still need to have more gun regulations passed, so that the people in this country can be safer.
