Letter: Restrictions needed to protect cave

The Oct. 28 story reported “Limits proposed on access to Ape Cave.” I did not know about problems prior to going to the cave. Inside it is very dark and you need lighting to find your way out.

While inside I noticed a lot of garbage and glass and was informed that a lot of parties go on. I didn’t realize that it was such a big problem. With this in mind, I think it is a gorgeous place that should be preserved. It should be respected and taken care of so more people can enjoy it. Littering shouldn’t be permitted in any public place and no sort of vandalism should be applied.

If most of the problems are occurring during the night and during the winter, the community should have no issues with restricting the caves to preserve it. The Ape Cave is not a right of the community but a privilege and we should try to keep it in the best possible condition.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
