A speeding driver crashed into a home on Mill Plain Boulevard early Saturday morning after colliding and spinning off from another vehicle.

The 31-year-old driver, who was not named by the Vancouver Police Department, was speeding down Mill Plain at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning when they struck another vehicle at the intersection of Mill Plain and Reserve Street.

The driver spun off, crashing into a nearby home, cracking the foundation and leaving a large hole in the basement, said Kim Kapp, spokeswoman for the police department. It is unclear whether the home was occupied at the time, Kapp said. The driver also struck a power pole, knocking down power lines.

The driver suffered significant injuries, Kapp said, though their condition as of Saturday afternoon was unknown. The driver, a 36-year-old passenger in the Camry and the driver of the other vehicle, who reported aches and pains but no significant injuries, were all transported to a nearby hospital.

Just moments before, patrol officers taking a suspect in an unrelated incident to jail had seen and reported the Camry heading the wrong way on Mill Plain, Kapp said. It is unclear whether the driver was still driving the wrong way when the crashes occurred.

The investigation as of Saturday afternoon was ongoing, and it’s unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident, Kapp said.
