The Nov. 12 editorial “REAL ID needs action,” regarding the Washington state’s driver’s license meeting federal guidelines, raises a simple question. It noted that the state offers an enhanced version for $18 over the regular licensing fee. I just paid $54 for a six-year renewal. Not sure what the enhanced license would have cost since it was not offered.
The bigger issues are why hasn’t the state complied with the federal rules, and why should a citizen have to pay for an enhanced license? Why not charge those who cannot provide proof of citizenship the higher rate?
I think I know the answer and it speaks to the desire of the Democrats to license illegal immigrants at the cost to the legal citizens. Washington is a blue state led by liberal Democrats who fail every day to represent the basic needs of the citizens as they bounce from one perceived social need to the next.
Come on, can’t they do the basics of government meeting required regulations? I would respect them if they actually had the nerve to question the regulations, but they are simply indifferent and absent.
What a group.
